Weekend Hotlist, 5/5/05

Good news for moms and all the people who love them. The April showers have passed, so you won't need your umbrellas early Sunday morning when you hit the streets for the Komen Race for the Cure. The annual race is one of many ways to keep mum busy this weekend, along with cruises, flowers and a massage that's a bit fishy -- we'll explain.

TODAY
You never know what's going to happen at a Ricky Kalmon show. Should you be bold enough to volunteer, he might have you thinking you're a sumo wrestler, the next Lorin Maazel or the recipient of a $100 bill that's really a napkin. Kalmon is a comedian/hypnotist who casts his spell over comedy clubs, casinos and corporate gatherings. He takes the stage at the Improv, Waterfront, at 8 tonight; 8 and 10 p.m. Friday; 7 and 9 p.m. Saturday; and 7 p.m. Sunday. Tickets are $16-$18. Call 412-462-5233 or go to www.improv.com.

Mrs. Rogers -- her friends call her Joanne -- will be at Borders in Monroeville tonight at 7 to sign "Life's Journey's According to Mister Rogers: Things to Remember Along the Way," a new book of gentle wisdom taken from never-before published speeches, books, songs, commentary and notes. For details, call 412-374-9772.

It's also Cinco de Mayo, so check your favorite Mexican restaurant (not Taco Bell) for fun, festivity and tequila. In Shadyside, Cozumel, on Walnut Street, will have dances and prizes for three days (412-621-5100), and Club Havana, on Ellsworth Street, will serve the salsa and merengue with DJ Marlon Silva from 5 to 10 p.m. today (412-661-2025).
